Covid-19: CP cuts long haul trains over the next two weekends

Measure affects Intercity and Alpha Pendular

CP will suppress the Alfa Pendular and Intercidades trains over the next two weekends, starting at 13:00, following the curfew, a state of emergency measure to contain the Covid-19 pandemic.

Speaking to Lusa, a company source said that the Alfa Pendular and Intercidades trains will be suppressed in the next two weekends (14 and 15 and 22 and 23) because of the curfew imposed by the Government.

"All passengers who had already purchased a ticket for these trips will have to contact CP to be reimbursed free of charge," he said.

According to the source, the supply of urban and regional trains will continue.

At dawn on Sunday, after an extraordinary meeting of the Council of Ministers, the Prime Minister, António Costa, announced that circulation will be limited for the next two weekends between 13:00 pm on Saturday and 5:00 am on Sunday and 13:00 pm on Sunday and at 05:00 am on Monday in the 121 municipalities with the highest risk of contagion.

The Government also decreed the mandatory curfew between 23:00 pm and 5:00 am on weekdays, from Monday until November 23, in the 121 municipalities most affected by the pandemic.

This list of higher risk municipalities will be updated this Thursday and should include more municipalities in the Algarve, in addition to São Brás de Alportel.

The measures affect 7,1 million people, corresponding to 70% of the population of Portugal, given that the 121 municipalities include all municipalities in the metropolitan areas of Lisbon and Porto.

According to the decree that regulates the application of the state of emergency decreed by the President of the Republic, which entered into force at 00:00 and was published in Diário da República on Sunday night, “trips to grocery stores and supermarkets and other establishments of sale of food and hygiene products for people and animals ”.

In these establishments, the diploma reads, “other products that are available there can also be purchased”.
