People over 65 in Portimão can now choose where to take the flu vaccine

Portimão wants to guarantee the decentralization of vaccination against this virus

Citizens of Portimão over 65 years old will be able to choose between taking the flu vaccine at a pharmacy, at the mobile health unit or at the Health Centre, under a set of partnerships established by the Portimão City Council, in order to ensure deconcentration vaccination against this virus.

Two projects already underway will allow, according to the Portimão City Council, "to vaccinate the greatest number of people over 65 against seasonal flu", under the norm "relating to priority groups and aimed at avoiding crowding in health centers in a time of pandemic by Covid-19».

One of the projects, “Vaccinating is to Save”, is carried out in partnership with the Dunas Community Care Unit and the municipality's parish councils, through the Mobile Health Unit, and has been ongoing for days.

Yesterday, the program “Local SNS Vaccination” was launched, in partnership with Dignitude and the National Association of Pharmacies.

In the first case, it is a community health initiative, «which allows vaccination through the Mobile Health Unit, being boosted by the “+ Proximity + Health” project, by the UCC Dunas do Aces Algarve II-Barlavento team, in partnership with the Municipality of Portimão and the parish councils of the county».

In the parish of Portimão, “Vacinar is to save” started on the 19th in Porto de Lagos. Yesterday and today he was in Portimão, where he will remain tomorrow, with the vaccination taking place at the Municipal Baths.

On the 26th, the mobile unit will park near the Pedra Mourinha Sports Club, on the 28th next to the Clube Recreativo da Aldeia da Companheira and on the 30th at Alameda da República, in the heart of the city.

In November, the Mobile Health Unit will be divided between the parishes of Alvor and Mexilhoeira Grande, with the following schedule: 2nd at the Parish Council of Mexilhoeira Grande; day 3 in Montes de Cima, next to the old café António Lúcio; 4th at Senhora do Verde, next to the old Primary School; the 5th at Pereira, next to Café José Gonçalves; 6th in Arão, next to Café Manuel Cansado; 16th, 17th and 18th in Montes de Alvor, next to the Post Office; and on the 19th and 20th at the Alvor Community Center.

In addition to this initiative, the municipality approved the signing of a protocol between the Municipality of Portimão, Dignitude and the National Association of Pharmacies, for the provision of 1800 vaccines under the "Local SNS Vaccination" program, which will be available from Free form, at community pharmacies that joined: Carvalho Pharmacy, Pedra Mourinha Pharmacy, Central Pharmacy, Modern Pharmacy, Portimão Villa Pharmacy, Rosa Nunes Pharmacy, Amparo Pharmacy and Arade Pharmacy.

For this, the Portimão City Council will pay around 4 euros.

With these two initiatives, the Municipality of Portimão «creates a municipal vaccination network with greater capacity and accessibility, through the increase in the number of places and times available, with the inclusion of community pharmacies and the Mobile Health Unit, in addition to the Primary Health Care Units».
