Cleaning marked 10 years of Rocha da Pena and Fonte da Benémola as protected areas

This was a "symbolic action of environmental volunteering"

Rocha da Pena and Fonte da Benémola, in Loulé, commemorate, this Sunday, their 10th anniversary as local protected areas, with a garbage cleanup. 

This was a «symbolic action of environmental volunteering to remove waste along the pedestrian path of this Protected Landscape, in leisure parks and car parks», says the City Council of Loulé.

The action was attended by five volunteers: two technicians from the Environment Division of the Municipality of Loulé, a member of the Portuguese Environment Agency – Administration of the Hydrographic Region of the Algarve, the president of the Union of Parishes of Querença, Tôr and Benafim and a member the Board of Directors of those protected areas and also a representative of Associação Almargem – Association for the Defense of the Cultural and Environmental Heritage of the Algarve.

This initiative aimed to "alert and sensitize visitors and society in general to the need to be more careful and conscientious when we are in a special area where there are natural values ​​to be preserved", he adds.

On the other hand, until October 21st, APA is also promoting in the region the Week of Education and Environmental Volunteer Initiatives – SEIVA 2020, under the project “Environmental Volunteering for Water”, under the theme “Water and Biodiversity – From Theory to Practice”.

In this context, it invited several public and private entities to join this initiative, which includes several actions in all municipalities in the Algarve region, including Loulé.

This is an initiative that is part of the Life Volunteer Escapes project – Volunteer with the European Solidarity Corps for Activities in Portugal with Ecological Sense, for nature conservation, biodiversity and environmental protection activities, coordinated by MONTIS – Nature Conservation Association , to which the Autarchy of Loulé (by invitation) also joined.
