It was 160 kilometers to paddle so that João Silva can sail

There were days when adventurers paddled for 10 hours, standing on the board

Tom Longhurst, Chris Grebby and Nick Robinson are the heroes of an adventure, which ended on September 25, and which had the sailor João Silva, from the Vela Solidária project, as the winner.

The three Stand Up Paddle practitioners, over the course of a week, traveled the 160 kilometers of the Algarve coast, standing on a board, to raise money for the purchase of a Hansa 303 boat, which will allow João Silva to continue to sail and start competing in 303 singles class competitions.

João Silva

João Silva is a sailor for the Vela Solidária project, organized by the Teia D'Impulsos Association, namely the Adapted Sailing School, whose objective is to teach sailing to children, young people and adults with disabilities.

Tom, Chris and Nick, during their journey between Sagres and Vila Real de Santo António, managed to raise 1364 euros which brought the sailor João Silva closer to the goal of acquiring the new vessel.

During its entire journey, it was possible to do tracking the location of the paddlers, through a website that they themselves assembled.

This tool, in addition to showing the location of the coast where they were, in real time, also showed the moment of their arrival.

«Leaving from Sagres, in the dark, with lanterns in our heads, we all felt that we had a difficult week ahead of us. With departure hours, we knew we weren't doing it alone. Thanks to paddlelogger and an amazing application, friends and family could
follow us online», emphasize the adventurers.

Along the way, «our spirit was lifted by vans whistling on top of the hills, friends rowing to see us and SUP enthusiasts who found us in the water».

The days were long, with "eight to 10 hours of paddling most days, but every moment was amazing."

For Tom, Chris and Nick, this is “an experience that will stay with us forever. Thank you so much for all the support from family and friends who made us feel blessed and joined in our adventure».
