Faro it was where it rained the most, but Barbara also “left” a lot of water inside

Faro, with almost 90 millimeters of rain accumulated throughout the day yesterday, 20 October, was the municipality in the Algarve where it rained the most, following the passage of the Bárbara depression in the south of the country. In Baixo Alentejo, Barrancos was the place most affected by precipitation, with 112,5 millimeters accumulated.

Taking into account that the average annual rainfall, in Faro, is just over 500 mm, the rain that fell yesterday in the Algarve capital corresponds to about one-sixth of what usually falls during an entire year.

After the storm passed through the national territory and of the problems it caused, the amount of rain that fell in the different regions of the country is already being done. And in the Algarve, the region where there were more occurrences related to the Bárbara depression, it rained a lot and how it had not been seen for a long time.

Precipitation was more intense in the Eastern Algarve, namely in Faro (88.9 mm), Olhão (57.1 mm) and Tavira (49.5 mm), but also in the interior of the Algarve, in the area between Martim Longo and Cachopo (61,8 mm), according to data from Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA).

In the Barlavento Algarvio, the wettest place was Aljezur (43.1 mm), followed by Portimão (42.9), Monchique (42.1 mm), Sagres (38 mm), according to data provided by IPMA, which also reveals data for Albufeira and Vila Real de Santo António, where rainfall levels were lower (29 mm and 15.9 mm, respectively).

Already Meteophons, the website of the Meteorological Stations at Sítio das Fontes – Lagoa Municipal Park and the one from the coast – Carvoeiro, revealed that yesterday, up to 17 pm, 00 mm had been recorded in Sítio das Fontes and 27.4 mm in Carvoeiro.

In Baixo Alentejo, according to data released by weather Alentejo, after Barrancos (112,5 mm), the places where it rained the most were: Vidigueira (79,8 mm); Moor (66 mm); Aljustrel (56,7 mm); Serpa (55,6 mm); Castro Verde (44,4 mm); Yellow (39.3 mm); Mértola (31 mm); and Herdade da Bemposta (19.2 mm).

According to data from IPMA, Sines, one of the councils in the district of Setúbal most affected by the storm, recorded a daily accumulated rainfall of 94.1 mm. In Évora, 101.4 mm of rain was recorded.

But the record holder was actually Portalegre, where 150.1 millimeters of rain fell yesterday alone.

For today, showers are expected to occur in the south of the country, although the situation should be "calmer", with the wind blowing "moderate from the south", according to Meteofontes.
