Cautious RTA president waits for UK 'formal decision'

João Fernandes awaits confirmation from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office

The maintenance of Portugal on the UK safe destinations list, «when it happens, it is excellent news», but João Fernandes, president of the Algarve Tourism Region, is cautious and says that «it is important to wait for a formal decision».

João Fernandes emphasizes that what supports the news of Portugal's stay in the air corridor “is a tweet from the Secretary of State for Transport, who said that today there would be no entry or exit from the list. However, this morning, the Secretary of State for Health he said that tomorrow [Friday] there would be news. There is contradictory news and the best thing is to wait for the FCO [Foreign and Commonwealth Office]».

The president of the Algarve Tourism Region hopes that the decision is even favorable to Portugal and the Algarve, not least because «the English market is very strong in the month of September».

For now, what is known and certain is that «Wales, unilaterally, applied restrictions» to those returning from Mainland Portugal, imposing a quarantine of 14 days, starting at 4 am this Friday.
