Por​imão celebrates European Mobility Week with a car-free day in Alvor

Municipality will also present the Smooth Mobility Regulation

The Municipality of Portimão prepared, for the period from 16 to 22 September, a set of initiatives to mark the European Mobility Week, this year under the motto “Zero Emissions, Mobility for all”, with the aim of raising awareness among the population. opt for travel solutions that benefit health and the environment.

The main highlight of the program belongs to the initiatives that will make it possible, on September 20, to set out to discover Alvor without cars, with car traffic being banned in the center of the village between 10:00 am and 20:00 pm.

But the big news this year will be the presentation of the Smooth Mobility Regulation, on September 22, at 17:30 pm, in the Small Auditorium of TEMPO – Teatro Municipal de Portimão.

To mark, from the outset, the beginning of the European Mobility Week, on the night of September 16, the invitation “Discovering Portimão” is launched, taking participants to explore the cultural riches of the city centre, guided by techniques from Casa Manuel Teixeira Gomes.

This tour, scheduled to depart at 21 pm at the bandstand at Praça Manuel Teixeira Gomes, is subject to prior registration and is limited to 00 participants, by calling 8 282 480 or at Casa Manuel Teixeira Gomes.

Along the same lines, historical and cultural visits to the discovery of Alvor are scheduled, the first on the 16th in English, and the second on the 18th in Portuguese, always starting at 18 pm.

In both cases, you will visit the streets and emblematic heritage sites of this typical fishing village facing the sea, where the Islamic heritage still has a strong presence. Registration for the two tours is mandatory and limited to 9 participants, via email [email protected]

Towards the end of September 17th, the proposal will be “Walking through the City” under the guidance of a coach from the Sports Division of the Municipality of Portimão. The walk is scheduled for 18:30 pm, with a duration of 60 minutes, and has the

The 18th and 19th were reserved for paid tours (€7,5 per adult) in a solar boat, in an action entitled “Along the shores of the Arade History”, which will be guided by the Algarve Sun Boat team due to the limited number of people on board of the vessel.

The embarkation point will be the Clube Naval de Portimão pier and the tours start at 10:00 am, 11:30 am, 15:00 pm and 16:30 pm, with the vessel having a capacity for eight people. Reservations, limited to the available seats, must be made by mobile phone 919 919 450 or by email [email protected].

Tickets for these tours will allow free entry to the Portimão Museum, only on September 19th and 20th.

 

Living Alvor without cars

In Alvor, on the 20th, the streets will belong to the people, invited to (re)discover the center of the village and its experiences, free of car circulation.

In this sense, road traffic will be prohibited between 10:00 am and 20:00 pm, except for rescue vehicles and security forces, public and alternative transport, transport of perishable products and vehicles for people with reduced mobility.

Early in the morning, from 9:30 am, it will be possible to take a walk between the village and the estuary. Interested parties should converge on Jardim D. João II, and enrollment is also mandatory and limited to 9 participants, who can express their availability to the email [email protected] .

With a concentration scheduled for 10:00 am in Jardim D. João II, a historical and cultural tour will be held through emblematic heritage spaces of Islamic Alvor, whose registration is mandatory and limited to 9 people, by email [email protected]

This morning, visitors will be able to travel to the Mercadinho da Ria, where various local products can be purchased between 8:00 am and 13:00 pm, while the traditional water carrier will walk throughout the day through the streets of Alvor with his donkey, distributing water to whom to request.

While the musical entertainment will travel through some arteries, two plastic artists will portray Alvor on the streets Marquês de Pombal and Dr. Frederico Ramos Mendes, on other days frequented by many cars. As a complement, a photographic exhibition will be on display in the historic center of Alvor, where it is proposed to travel into the town's past.

But the proposals do not stop there, as there will also be family tours on the tourist train, at €1 per person, departing and arriving at the riverside area of ​​Alvor and at Largo Álvaro de Ataíde. For its part, the Escola da Bicycle will tour the streets of

Alvor, while from the facilities of Clube Naval D. João II it will be possible to explore the Ria de Alvor by paddle boards, canoes or pedal boats.

Another suggestion is, from 17 pm onwards, to get to know 'in loco' what is planned for the musealization of the Alvor Life Saving Station, whose relevant role for the local fishing community will be recalled in person by a former crew member, when sharing your memories. A tour of the Alvor Biodiversity Station is scheduled for 18:00 pm, open to 9 participants, who will set out to discover this new 3 km walking route along the banks of the Ria de Alvor. Portimão launches Smooth Mobility Regulation

The activities related to the European Mobility Week will culminate on September 22, with the presentation of the Smooth Mobility Regulation, scheduled for 17:30 pm in the Small Auditorium of TEMPO – Teatro Municipal de Portimão.

This disciplinary tool was created by the Municipality of Portimão, in view of the increase in private operators that show interest in providing and exploiting soft mode sharing services (motorcycles and similar equipment).

At the origin of the regulation is the awareness that sustainable mobility in cities – non-polluting and environmentally friendly – ​​is a concern of citizens and a contribution to improving their quality of life.

Finally, and with a view to enhancing the use of public transport, the Vai e Vem – Urban Circuit of Portimão will be free on 18, 19 and 20 September on all of its 18 lines, which ensure the connection of various points in the county the city center, the hospital and the main services, as well as various places of interest in the municipality.
