Young bather saved on S. Rafael beach after being dragged by the Levante current

The lifeguards had already given several warnings to other swimmers

A 27-year-old swimmer, Portuguese national, was dragged by the current on Wednesday at S. Rafael beach, in Albufeira, this Wednesday, but was eventually rescued by AquaForm's professional lifeguards, in service. in that bathing area.

The bather, as a witness told the Sul Informação, when dragged, left "the area where she had a foot, getting into difficulties, not being able to return".

While the victim's boyfriend was asking for help, one of the lifeguards, Duarte Maximino, quickly reached the young woman, reassuring her and towing her with a torpedo buoy to a safe area.

In addition to the scare, no more support was needed, nor was there any emergency medical intervention.

The flag was yellow, which allows entering the water, but not swimming, and the lifeguards, who were all close to the waterline, had already given several warnings to several bathers, taking into account the Levant (southeast) current.

The elements of the Municipal Civil Protection of Albufeira, in an action to raise awareness, at that moment, on the beach of S. Rafael, attended the rescue.

Coincidentally, this was the same lifeguard who had made a rescue, days before, at Praia Grande in Armação de Pêra.

AquaForm (an entity recognized by the ISN for the provision of bathing assistance services) reinforces the advice to bathers, to go to supervised beaches, follow the rules of the flags and the indications of the NS, not running unnecessary risks.
