Government says "double effort" is needed to accomplish decarbonization

“Covid-19 hit us very hard. What we have to do going forward requires a double effort to continue to comply with environmental and decarbonization policies.”

The Minister of the Sea underlined this Wednesday, September 9, in Parliament, that the Covid-19 pandemic hit everyone "in a very strong way", requiring "a double effort" to comply with environmental and decarbonization policies.

“Covid-19 hit us very hard. What we have to do from now on requires a double effort to continue to comply with environmental and decarbonization policies, which are closely linked to the green pact,” said Ricardo Serrão Santos, at a hearing in the Parliamentary Committee on Agriculture and Sea.

The responsible for the Mar folder is participating in the meeting by video call, as he will carry out a screening test to Covid-19 later today.

“Since yesterday [Tuesday] I've had some symptoms – cough and sore throat – which I think are the result of some constipation,” he explained.

Ricardo Serrão Santos also noted that it is important that, within the scope of the European budget, “the priority is maintained” of allocating 30% to the decarbonization of the economy.

During his initial intervention, the Minister of the Sea considered that the sector has made an enormous effort during the pandemic, guaranteeing supplies to the population.
