“Festa da Cataplana” will bring together culture and gastronomy in Castro Marim

12 restaurants in the county joined the initiative

The “Festa da Cataplana” takes place from September 13th to October 17th, in Castro Marim, aiming to “complete the devastating economic effects that the fight against the pandemic has generated”. 

“The initiative is not new, but it is now of greater importance than ever,” says the Chamber of Castro Marim, given the current Covid-19 crisis.

Thus, the secrets of Cataplana, seasoned with the “best salt in the world”, return to the municipality of Castro Marim, in what will be the 6th edition of an event that aims to boost tourism and economic activity in the territory.

«The initiative was joined by 12 restaurants in the municipality, which will present at least two types of cataplana, with attractive and differentiating prices. Despite the seafood being one of the most popular cataplanas, the restaurants are also preparing octopus, cod, monkfish, kid and pork tenderloin cataplana», explains the municipality.

In this edition, the Chamber of Castro Marim integrated a differentiating element, which is musical animation. During this period, all participating restaurants will be animated by local cultural agents.

The Cataplana Festival aims to promote and promote local culture, economy and gastronomy, attracting the public looking for quality and gastronomic differential and thus boosting the economic dynamic, this year particularly fragile, after a summer lived in the pandemic context and whose tourism breaks were responsible for tripling unemployment in the Algarve.

"In such a difficult year in terms of economics and public health, there is a need, in harmony with current public health measures, to have an integrated and balanced stimulus to the local economy, interconnected with culture and local cultural agents," he stressed. The organization urges the public to make their reservations at participating restaurants, as well as to respect the Covid-19 prevention measures: hand hygiene, respiratory etiquette and physical distance.
