The Lagos City Council decided, at its last meeting, to allocate a subsidy of 2.500 euros to the Clube de Vela de Lagos, to support the participation in the European Juniors Laser Championship 4,7.
After qualifying last February, the athletes from the Lacobrigense club saw the event postponed as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
With all safety measures guaranteed, the European Laser 4,7 Championship took place between 14 and 22 August, in Vilamoura, with the presence of 180 sailors from 21 countries. With good weather and sea conditions, the athletes fought for the European title during this championship of international reference.
«Within the scope of the Sports Sponsorship measure integrated in the Sports Support Program of the municipality, the municipal executive decided to award this financial support, reinforcing Lagos as a sport-friendly municipality and recognizing the work of the Clube de Vela de Lagos and its athletes for dignify the county as a privileged place for the practice of nautical sports», stresses the municipality in a press release.
