Searches to find missing young person on Furnas beach in Vila do Bispo

Two young men were dragged to the sea, but only one managed to return to land

A young man of foreign nationality disappeared yesterday afternoon, Friday, at Furnas beach, in Vila do Bispo, after having had difficulties at sea and having been dragged into a rocky area. Searches resumed this morning.

Following an alert received, informing that two young people, between 20 and 30 years old, were in difficulties at sea, the Captain of the Port of Lagos immediately activated the Maritime Police picket, a vessel from the Station, to the location. Lifeguards in Sagres, the Amarok vehicle with two soldiers from the “SeaWatch” project and the Vila do Bispo Firefighters.

One of the young men managed to reach land by their own means, not needing medical assistance, the other young man having disappeared at sea.

The means of the National Maritime Authority, in collaboration with the Voluntary Firefighters of Vila do Bispo, began searches for the missing young man, which were interrupted at sunset, and resumed this Saturday at the first dawn.

The National Maritime Authority is coordinating operations and will maintain its presence along the coastline.
