Alcoutim will celebrate the Municipality Day on Friday, September 11th, with the inauguration of several works and initiatives in different parishes, but without the usual cultural entertainment.
The program starts with the traditional raising of the flag, at 10:00 am, at Praça da República. This is followed by a minimalist Solemn Session, «with a format adapted to the new reality», which will take place at Espaço Guadiana.
This session will be restricted to guests and will be broadcast live on Facebook page of the City Council.
The commemorations continue with a tour “throughout the territory, covering all the parishes, inaugurating several works carried out”, not only on Friday, but also on Saturday.
Along the way, and for safety reasons linked to the pandemic, there was the commemoration of the 500th anniversary of Foral Manuelino de Alcoutim and cultural entertainment, which were cancelled.
“We cannot let our guard down. We have taken an important and positive path in the fight against the pandemic and, this year, the celebrations of the Municipality Day will not have the dimension of other years, in which the Alcoutim Festivals are an important tourist attraction, attracting thousands of visitors every year» , said Osvaldo Gonçalves, president of the Alcoutim Chamber.
For the mayor, what really matters on these occasions is “the reinforcement of the spirit of community, responsibility and the improvement of the living conditions of the populations”.
