Salir hosts the first semifinal of the “7 Wonders of Popular Culture”

The Espiga Festival is the only candidate in the Algarve still on the ballot

The first semifinal of the program “7 Wonders of Popular Culture” will take place next Sunday, August 23, from 11:30 am to 20:00 pm, in Salir. There will be live broadcast on RTP1.

Salir, chosen to host the Portuguese Popular Culture, receives the 13 semifinalist delegations that, together with the Festa da Espiga de Salir, compete for the title of the 7 Wonders of Portugal. Coming from across mainland Portugal and the islands, each of these semi-finalists will show their intangible cultural heritage to the entire world in search of a place in the final.

«The Parish of Salir, located in the heart of the Serra do Caldeirão, thus has the opportunity and responsibility to promote the entire Interior of the Algarve, contributing significantly to territorial cohesion, promoting a complementary offer to beaches throughout the region, in a an interior full of history, culture, gastronomy, handicrafts, stunning landscapes and unique people in their welcome», says Câmara de Loulé.

Due to the conditions imposed by the current moment in which we live, the public in the place will be limited and restricted, there will also be conditions for the normal circulation of traffic in the center of the village of Salir.

Even so, the municipality emphasizes that the "participation of all continues to be essential for the success of this celebration". Festa da Espiga is the only candidate in the Algarve still in voting, thus representing the entire region.

This broadcast is the result of the will and collaboration of the Salir Parish Council, Loulé City Council and a significant number of volunteers and sponsors.

All these entities aim to promote the natural, cultural and heritage values ​​of the territories of the interior Algarve, and, particularly, of the Parish of Salir.
