Moroccans who landed in the Algarve destroyed equipment at the reception center

Court decided to keep migrants another month in the Temporary Installation Center

Eleven Moroccan citizens from the group that landed off the Algarve in June destroyed some equipment at the temporary installation center at Porto airport, in reaction to the court decision to keep them in Portugal for another month.

According to the Foreigners and Borders Service (SEF), by court decision, it was decided to maintain the Temporary Installation Centers, for another 30 days, of Moroccan nationals who disembarked off Praia de Vale do Lobo, in the Algarve , on the 15th of June.

This decision by the Court of Loulé was taken “while awaiting authorization from the Moroccan authorities for the execution of his removal, bearing in mind the existing constraints in the context of combating the covid-19 pandemic”, explains the SEF.

The Foreigners and Borders Service told Lusa that the 11 citizens of the group who are at the Temporary Installation Center at Francisco Sá Carneiro airport, in Porto, reacted “violently” to the court decision.

“It is recalled that three citizens of this group had already escaped from that space on the 3rd of July, having been located on the same day and resettled there”, added the SEF, stressing that the situation is being “monitored, together with the Public Security Police”.

The vessel, with a total of 22 migrants from North Africa, was intercepted by the Maritime Police on 15 June, when the crew were preparing to disembark at Praia de Vale do Lobo.

At the time, the 22 occupants of the vessel told Portuguese authorities that they were Moroccans and explained that they had departed from the city of El-Jadida, in Morocco.
