Luís Encarnação and president of the APA visited a work in Praia da Marinha that PSD repudiates

Luís Encarnação expressed his desire to make "a proposal for an exceptional regime for access to the Benagil cave"

The mayors of Lagoa and the Portuguese Environment Agency (APA) visited, this Friday, 21 August, the beaches of Marinha, Benagil and Ferragudo. In the Navy, they could see the work, under the responsibility of the Municipality, which deserves harsh criticism from the opposition (PSD).

The delegation was composed of Luís Encarnação accompanied by councilor Jorge Pardal, responsible for the beach and seafront, and Nuno Lacasta, president of the APA, assisted by Pedro Coelho, head of the Planning and Information Division of the Administration of the Hydrographic Region of the Algarve of APA.

The visit to Praia da Marinha was aimed at analyzing and verifying the work under the responsibility of the Lagoense Municipality, which, says the municipality, «aims to condition the access of vehicles to the cliffs and guarantee the preservation of the natural heritage of the site».

Only, on the part of the PSD/Lagoa, the timing this work is not acceptable, since it takes place "in the middle of a period of great influx of tourists".

The Social Democrats say that the Chamber had "five months, from October to February, to carry out this work and had another eight months until the end of the municipal mandate to carry out the work, without creating these regrettable constraints."

Returning to the visit of Luís Encarnação and Nuno Lacasta, the visit to Benagil “allowed us to confirm the chaotic state of the beach resulting from the excessive demand for visits to the Grotto”.

Luís Encarnação, mayor of the Municipality, stated in this place his «willingness to submit to the APA, soon after this summer of 2020,

"In the event that this area is categorized as a protected area, it will be possible to improve the management and control of visits, thus allowing greater preservation of this natural heritage of the municipality of Lagoa", defended the mayor.

The tour was concluded in Ferragudo, with the presence of Luís Veríssimo, president of the Parish Council, where the two mayors had the opportunity to present the position of the Lagoa City Council and the Parish Council of Ferragudo regarding the sand deposition project in Praias do Molhe and Pintadinho, the widening of the navigation channel of the River Arade and the intervention in Praia da Angrinha, considering that «this project does not serve the environmental, heritage and economic interests of the municipality of Lagoa.
