Jerónimo de Sousa attends a dinner-rally in Vila Real de Santo António

Rally takes place at Marquês de Pombal Square

Jerónimo de Sousa, general secretary of the PCP, will participate this Saturday, August 15, at 19 pm, in a rally dinner at Praça Marquês de Pombal, in Vila Real de Santo António.

The dinner will take place in the city of Pomba, "due to the health issues raised by the epidemic", having been canceled "the usual gathering that the PCP promotes every year on the beach of Monte Gordo».

According to the PCP, this initiative “is part of a series of summer rallies that the PCP has been holding in the Algarve region – Faro, Quarteira, Olhão, Armação de Pêra, Portimão – and marks the initiative and proposal of the PCP in the region».

For the communists, «the impacts of the epidemic in the Algarve, the use made of it by economic and financial groups, the guidelines and the absence of measures by the Government, are causing a rapid deterioration of the economic and social situation, which in the past the summer will leave very deep marks in terms of unemployment and workers' rights, in the situation of thousands of micro and small companies, in the increase of poverty».

For the PCP, «the Algarve does not need more announcements of plans and measures (and there have been many over the years) so that, in essence, everything remains the same. The workers and populations of the Algarve do need a profound change in the options that have been imposed on them and against which the PCP has been fighting. Valuing salaries, combating precariousness, diversifying economic activity and promoting productive activities, supporting MSMEs, more public investment - transport, Central Hospital, education, etc -, regionalization, are aspects of an alternative, patriotic and left-wing policy, that the Algarve and the country need».
