45 young people from the municipality of Albufeira who stood out in areas such as sport, culture, citizenship, volunteering or the academic world were received and honored at the Town Hall to mark the International Youth Day, which is celebrated worldwide on the 12th of August.
According to the municipality, “this year, due to the rules of social distance, it was not possible to have the usual lunch and boat trip along the coast. Alternatively, the young people were received by the mayor of Albufeira, by members of the council and by the president of the Municipal Assembly, having been distinguished with the delivery of merit recognition diplomas and the work “Breve História de Albufeira”, among other small works memories".
Mayor José Carlos Rolo welcomed everyone and underlined the importance of the moment as a way to recognize the value of future generations.
“Albufeira is a very young municipality and young people have to be welcomed, well treated and you have to know how to recognize their value”. The president drew attention to the complicated moment that we are living in a health, economic and social level, having said that “although this is a very difficult period, it is important that it serves for young people to learn to deal with changes and difficulties that arise throughout life and to reinforce values such as compliance with rules, humility and tolerance», he stressed.
The mayor took the opportunity to thank the collaboration of School Groups, clubs, cultural and sports associations and other entities that referred to the young people «who today we are pleased and proud to recognize and symbolically honor in this house that belongs to everyone».
Finally, he wished for «greatest academic success, in addition to the other areas that, of course, are also important, but education is essential, not only with regard to the acquisition of knowledge, but also in terms of personality formation and evolution. of the person as a human being».
Councilors Rogério Neto and Ana Pífaro they also praised the commitment, effort and dedication of the young people, having reinforced the importance of values, namely respect “fundamental for the development of any society, respect for all people, but above all for the elderly”, stressed Rogério Neto.
The vice president added self-esteem and personal fulfillment to the list. Ana Pifaro underlined the importance of being aware that all people have the capacity and potential to excel in some area. "It is time to make choices and it is essential that they believe in you, that you choose what makes you feel fulfilled and that you are aware that you can always improve."
The president of the Municipal Assembly ended the period of interventions by drawing the young people's attention to the meaning of having been recognized by other people, highlighting the importance of teamwork. "Nobody is the center of the universe, to be good at something you need the help of other people to succeed."
Paulo Freitas once again emphasized the importance of respect, conscious choices and example for other young people.
