«I understand that people worry about summer – and this will not be the same – but, from the point of view of health services, I am more concerned about winter. Every year we have flu, this year will be no exception, but this time there will be flu and Covid-19». This is the opinion of Paulo Morgado, president of the Regional Health Administration (ARS) of the Algarve, left this Friday, July 10, at the press conference to assess the pandemic.
The official said that "we have to work so that we can have a winter with some peace of mind."
Paulo Morgado gave as an example the «reinforcement of the flu vaccine», already announced by the Government, «with the objective of preventing what will be the next season».
In the opinion of the president of ARS/Algarve, this will be "a strange summer", since "tourism is going through a difficult phase".
In terms of health, guaranteed Paulo Morgado, «we are prepared and we have the silver of the house».
"We have an office that facilitates mobility for professionals who want to come and we always count on our excellent professionals," he added.
The president of the ARS revealed that the value of r (contagion rate) in the Algarve «is less than 1», which is a good sign, although it is necessary not to let your guard down.
“A negative result is just a photograph of the moment. That doesn't mean things don't change days later. There are situations of asymptomatic or pre-symptomatic people and this aspect is fundamental for us to understand that the determinations of the health authority are not arrest warrants, but rather a work to contain the transmission chains», he stressed.
Paulo Morgado revealed that the Mental Health Office, operating in each of the Health Center Groupings in the Algarve, has already assisted 117 people affected by Covid-19, including patients and health professionals.
The purpose of this initiative is to provide psychological support to people directly or indirectly affected by the pandemic.
