The Portimão 2020 Summer Vacation kicked off this Monday, June 29, with the presence of 80 children. During the first week, participants will have the «opportunity to enjoy various sports, cultural, recreational, educational, river and sea activities, where there will be plenty of adventure and fun», guarantees the City Council.
The municipality explains that the project “Summer Vacation Portimão 2020”, “in exceptional times of pandemic, will replace the usual municipal programs for the occupation of free time, this year having different contours, in compliance with the recommendations issued by the General Directorate of Health and by the Portuguese Institute of Sport and Youth, with a view to guaranteeing all the hygiene and safety conditions for the children who will attend the activities».
The Summer Holidays run weekly, until August 14, from 8:30 am to 13:30 pm, and are aimed at children between 6 and 12 years old.
«In addition to the opportunity it gives the little ones to play, experience different experiences and acquire healthy lifestyle habits, the program also aims to provide an effective response to guardians who are already working», states the Portimão City Council.
The initiative takes place in all parishes of the county and the activities are developed in ten areas: Museum of Portimão, Municipal Library Manuel Teixeira Gomes, Pedagogical Farm of Portimão, TEMPO – Municipal Theater of Portimão, Sports Area of Praia da Rocha, Clube Naval de Portimão, Tennis Club Portimão e Rocha, EB 2,3 D. Martinho Castelo Branco (Portimão), EB 2,3 D. João II (Alvor) and EB 2,3 José Sobral (Mexilhoeira Grande).
According to the municipality, "there are still some places for children who want to participate in the Summer Holidays and have days full of entertainment, in which sport, culture, the environment, learning new things and values such as friendship will always be present. ».
Places are limited to 100 participants per week, distributed in groups of ten children by different nuclei.
Entries, which are made exclusively online, on the website of the Municipality of Portimão, have a weekly cost of 15 euros and can be made simultaneously for several weeks.
