Portimão Parish Council helps make “Accessible Beaches” for everyone

The Parish of Portimão says that, with this practice, "it intends to ensure that people with reduced mobility can enjoy the beach with equity, dignity, comfort and the greatest possible autonomy"

The Parish Council of Portimão started the “Accessible Beaches” project, which allows people with limited mobility access to bathing at Praia do Vau.

Thanks to the partnership with the More Moving Moments Association (MMM), the “Accessible Beaches 2020″ project offers younger users an buggy: wheelchair designed and built to ensure that children and young people can enjoy the beach.

The chair allows the person “to move on the sand without any difficulty, allowing easy access to the water”, says the municipality.

The buggy thus joins the thrall, another vehicle that allows access to the sea in a comfortable and safe way, whether a total dive or just to get your feet wet, without having to leave the vehicle, as well as floating in the water in a stable and safe position, with the help of monitors from the PORTISUB – Portimão Underwater Club that will ensure people's access to bathing.

The Parish of Portimão says that, with this practice, “it intends to ensure that people with limited mobility can enjoy the beach with equity, dignity, comfort and the greatest possible autonomy”.

This year, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the wearer and monitor must wear a visor. These equipments can be used at the following times – from 10:00 am to 13:00 pm and from 15:00 pm to 19:00 pm.
