Young promise of sailing is training in Portimão

Rocco is considered the best sailor in his class in Ireland and one of the best in the world.

The young sailor Rocco Wright, aged 13, chose Clube Naval de Portimão to prepare for the European Optimist Championship that will take place in October, in Slovenia.

Rocco is considered the best sailor in his class in Ireland and one of the best in the world. His father, Darren Wright, also races on the big sailboats, in the Rolex trophy.

Unable to train in Ireland, because of Covid-19, the young athlete and his family “didn't find it better than Clube Naval de Portimão, in the Algarve, where they discovered all the safety conditions in place”, says Clube Naval.

The young Rocco Wright has already trained yesterday, the 15th, «demonstrating his potential» and the reasons why he won the Sydney competition, last year, and the Great Britain Optimist Championship, in the children's class, in 2018, between 120 competitors from 13 countries.

In 2019, his first year as a youth, he took 10th place in the world championship.

The young sailor will stay in Portimão, with his family, until the end of the month, «without any fear of being contaminated by the pandemic, a proof that foreign citizens consider our region a safe place», concludes the Clube Naval.
