After being dismissed by the previous Administration, Martins dos Santos is part of CHUA's clinical director

"Conciliatory perspective" of the new administration

The surgeon Gildásio Martins dos Santos, who had been dismissed as director of the General Surgery service of the Hospital and University Center of the Algarve (CHUA), last week, in the last act of the last day in office of the outgoing Board of Directors, will now join CHUA's clinical direction.

Paulo Morgado, president of the Regional Health Administration (ARS) of the Algarve, revealed that the former Director of General Surgery “has been appointed deputy clinical director” of CHUA.

The new Board of Directors of CHUA, which took office on July 17, in a note sent to the newsrooms, he had explained a few days ago that he intended to give Dr. Martins dos Santos an opportunity to defend himself against his removal from the functions he occupied.

The CA, now led by Lisbon's Ana Castro, assured that, when it officially began its functions, on the 17th, it was confronted «with a management deliberation of the previous CA' dated the day before.

However, added the new CHUA leadership, in this decision taken at the fall of the cloth by the administration led by Ana Paula Gonçalves, “the foundations and reasons” for the “immediate dismissal” of Martins dos Santos were put forward, “without this resolution having been preceded by the so-called “right of hearing of the interested party”».

Martins dos Santos was eventually invited to join CHUA's clinical direction, in a process that Paulo Morgado classifies as "a conciliatory perspective" triggered by the new Board of Directors.
