The mayor of Monchique, in conjunction with the local GNR, ordered the cancellation of a Midsummer party that was being organized for this Saturday, June 20, in the Foz de Besteiros area, in the parish of Marmelete.
«There were several posters circulating about this event and other events in Monchique, in the next few days, with an emphasis on one taking place on Saturday, the solstice day. In articulation with the GNR, I ordered the cancellation of all events», revealed Rui André, speaking to Sul Informação.
The party, which should be repeated within days, was organized by the foreign community that lives in that area of the Serra de Monchique. "As the organizers are foreigners, they are not aware of the legislation on Covid-19, so I ordered the event to be canceled and they committed to comply," added the Monchiquense mayor.
Rui André emphasizes that, taking into account the outbreak caused by the illegal party of Odiáxere and the fact of Monchique register a new case of Covid-19 (although not related to the party), «at this stage, all the precautions are few and I could not let an event with these characteristics take place». It is “a matter of prevention”.
The mayor also called for, despite the phase of distrust, all people continue to follow the rules, namely hand hygiene, use of masks and social distance.
