The Santa Casa da Misericórdia in Vila do Bispo, with "great support from the population", is distributing food to firefighters who continue to fight the fire that started yesterday, June 19, in Aljezur, but which also reached Vila do Bispo and Lakes.

Only during lunch today, the 20th, “500 to 550 meals” were distributed, something that will be repeated at dinner.

“We are integrated into the Civil Protection response. Whenever there is an emergency, we immediately trigger our device. The firefighters order the necessary meals and we provide them,” explained Armindo Vicente, provider of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia in Vila do Bispo, to Sul Informação.

For all this logistics, the responsible emphasizes "the great support of the population that came together to help".

«In the Fire Department, there is the logistics center. We are preparing the meals on our premises, we take them there, where volunteers and also Fire Brigade operatives are making the referral», explained Armindo Vicente.

After "yesterday was more difficult", the work has already been "reorganized and is now working very well".

“We are distributing bread, fruit, soup, the meal, water and energy bars. We have also already asked technicians and operatives who were off to come and work to help,” he added.

Last night, the situation in Budens, where the fire was close by, was still frightening, due to the nursing home that exists in this locality.

“We have an alert system for when there is a possible threat and we have placed the prevention team for a possible evacuation to a Population Support Zone (ZAP) that we have in Sagres. Fortunately, it was not necessary», confessed Armindo Vicente.

As for this help given to the firefighters that fight this fire (at the moment, there are 432), the provider of the Misericórdia of Vila do Bispo leaves a guarantee:

"We will be here for as long as we need".
