Mário de Carvalho wins the APE/Loulé Literature Grand Prix

The Grand Prize for Chronicle and Literary Dispersed has already distinguished the authors José Tolentino Mendonça, Rui Cardoso Martins, Mário Cláudio and Pedro Mexia

The book “What I heard in the apple barrel”, by writer Mário de Carvalho, is the winner of the Grand Prize for Chronic Literature and Literary Dispersed by the Portuguese Association of Writers (APE)/Loulé Municipal Council. 

The jury, consisting of Cândido Oliveira Martins, Carlos Albino and Paula Mendes Coelho, unanimously decided to award the prize to this work.

The minutes read: «Mário de Carvalho's book – 'What I heard in the barrel of apples' – stands out from the set of works presented in the competition for its full conjugation with the characteristic line of the chronicle genre in Portuguese literary tradition . Other works in the competition are also of great merit but are outside the regulatory parameters of the prize or outside the characteristics of the genres under consideration».

The Grand Prize for Chronicle and Literary Dispersed, instituted by the Portuguese Association of Writers with the sponsorship of the Municipality of Loulé, is intended to annually reward a work in Portuguese, by Portuguese author, published in a book and in the first edition in Portugal, in year 2019. In this edition, the monetary value of this award for the distinguished author is 12 thousand euros.

The award ceremony will be announced in due course.
