General Director of Health admits fairs in "good terraces" and complying with the new rules

“It's a new normality. Things can be done, but with rules"

The director-general of Health defended today that the camps can take place, but in a different way from other years, because they will have to comply with the rules established to minimize the spread of the new cononavirus.

During the daily press conference to update information regarding the infection by the new coronavirus (covid-19, the general director of Health, Graça Freitas, stated that “there is nothing to stop there being a good terrace and that this terrace has music and that this music is accompanied by a grill and beautiful sardines”.

However, underlined Graça Freitas, it is necessary to comply with the distancing rules: “It is a new normality. Things can be done, but with rules”.

The director-general of Health said that, at the moment, "great terraces, with many people" are already operating, who comply with the rules and therefore "the risk is minimal", but there are also spaces where "the risks are too much" .

On Wednesday, the Minister of the Presidency stated that the authorities would guarantee that no festivals and popular festivals would be held, even if they were informally promoted by establishments with a license to operate.

Present at the DGS press conference on Wednesday, Mariana Vieira da Silva stressed that “disconfinement does not mean normality” and recalled that “popular parties and fairs are expressly prohibited”.

The justification for this ban is linked to “the rules of social distancing”, which prevent the holding of parties, even private ones, which “have been problematic points in recent weeks”, said the minister.

Asked today whether the fairs are prohibited or not, Graça Freitas replied: “A cafe can have a terrace, a terrace can have a grill, the grill can have sardines, this does not prevent everyone from observing the rules, it will be a different camp from last year's fair”.
