Adriano Pimpão has resigned as president of the Municipal Assembly of Loulé and will no longer be a municipal deputy, due to differences with the socialist executive and the municipal bench of the PS, the party on whose lists he was elected.
Contacted by Sul Informação, Adriano Pimpão confirmed that the decision to resign, announced last night during the extraordinary session of the AM in Loulé, "is irreversible" and that it is due to the fact that he believes that the promises made by the PS and himself, as an independent who ran on the party lists, they did in the election campaign.
"It has to do with the fulfillment of the electoral program, with the commitments that I also assumed during the electoral campaign and that I verified that they were not being fulfilled in the least, nor was there the effort that I thought there should be", said the former university dean of the Algarve.
“I felt that the goals were not being achieved, that the things that needed to change in the administration were not being fulfilled. Anyway, it's something that I will explain in a more formal way, in the meeting that is held for the election of the new AM board, because people have the right to know», he reinforced.
The decision was "duly considered", but ended up being announced rather abruptly, during the agenda of the extraordinary session of AM de Loulé that took place this Friday night.
“Yesterday there were factors that aggravated the situation. Therefore, I have no other alternative, to fulfill my mandate and my commitment to voters, which is something I do not do without,” he explained to our newspaper.
It all started with a complaint from a citizen, an architect by profession, who accused the chamber of dual criteria in the evaluation of projects submitted to the services.
Adriano Pimpão defended that the Chamber should clean up the situation, but he got adverse reactions from both the executive and deputies of the socialist majority.
A situation that left the AM president visibly upset.
«I am not a master of ceremonies and a distributor of roles. I have to check. This has to do with the good name of the municipality. Because the longer things take, the more insinuations will emerge», he defended.
"If there is a preliminary inquiry, which was carried out and reached conclusions, there is nothing simpler than delivering the result to this assembly", he reinforced.
Adriano Pimpão warned that "the table has responsibilities, the assembly has responsibilities in these matters and the speed with which these problems are resolved is always a good contribution to putting an end to this type of insinuation."
And he concluded: “Mrs, namely the members of the majority, I promise that I will remain silent and that I will no longer exercise my powers as a Member, as eventually the concept of a Member that one has is to be silent. Therefore, I will become a master of ceremonies for this session, for the sake of the tranquility that the bench wants».
Later, in the same session, the former dean of UAlg made the resignation announcement.
«The next session will be chaired by the 1st Secretary, as I consider that I am unable to continue exercising the functions of President of the Municipal Assembly. Therefore, - also for what was seen today, which was an excellent example -, next week, after fulfilling all my obligations and meeting with the standing committee, I will present my resignation as president of AM and, later, resignation from the position of municipal deputy», he announced.
“This was the position for which I was elected and I thought I was fulfilling in accordance with the commitment I made, namely with the party on the lists from which I was elected. Commitments that are written and sent by the general secretary of the party for all of us to sign. Some of these principles, I tried to defend here, but I couldn't», he asserted.
Questioned by Sul Informação if it comes out in conflict with the executive led by Vítor Aleixo, the president of AM de Loulé says that "it's only a shock if it is in terms of a political perspective, of what should be done and what has been done or not."
He even made a point of stressing that "it is not about any personal issue, they are merely political issues."
“There are many things that the executive believes are fully done that I don't think are. There are also irregularities that are reported and that I think should be seen, regardless of whether they are true or not. They were deposited on the Board of the Assembly and the Assembly must continue, so that everything is clarified. We are also a supervisory body», he illustrated.
On the other hand, he said, «since 2014» that Adriano Pimpão considers and draws attention to the duty to «be very careful with the promises we made and with the fulfillment that we should make of those promises. This, for me, is sacred».
“It is an individual decision that I think I have to take in conscience out of respect for myself, for the position for which I was elected and respect for the citizens of the municipality of Loulé”, he summed up.
