MOJU helps young people in distance learning and occupying free time

"With the suspension of classroom classes due to the Covid-19 pandemic, young people are at home, but it is very important that study routines are maintained"

MOJU – Youth Movement Association in Olhão is helping young people in this stage of distance learning. In addition, it gives tips on activities to occupy your free time.

“With the suspension of face-to-face classes due to the Covid-19 pandemic, young people are at home, but it is very important that they maintain study routines,” says the MOJU.

In times of distance learning, this association from Olhano “continues to be on the ground, promoting an accompaniment to online study. This accompaniment is done through study sessions accompanied by video calls and through support for the accomplishment of school tasks through social networks».

Additionally, in conjunction with the municipality's schools, «young people who are unable to access school tasks digitally have been identified. Thus, and in order to establish a bridge between young people without access to a computer with internet and school, the youth association from Olhão prints and delivers school assignments sent by teachers to young people who otherwise would not have access», he explains.

“This is a way of guaranteeing that they are not excluded from distance learning and, at the same time, “maintaining the connection with the social and community intervention projects underway at the Association. At the moment, school work is being distributed to 63 children and young people».

Another issue that has become a concern for the MOJU is the lack of motivation and anxiety of some young people to find themselves at home.

Therefore, « daily and weekly proposals are launched for activities to occupy their free time, such as challenges, competitions and workshops ».

"Since the beginning of the isolation period, more than 100 activity proposals have been launched and the most participative and creative ones have even been entitled to some rewards."

These initiatives arise as an adaptation to the civic duty of confinement by young people and are framed in the activities of the Mais Sucesso E7G Project, promoted under the 7th Generation of the Choices Program, of the AJO Project – Youth Academy of Olhão, promoted under the Partnerships for the Program Impact of Portugal Inovação Social, and with the support of volunteers from the European Solidarity Corps.

Also within the scope of the Partnerships for the Impact of Portugal Social Innovation Program, the SER Mental Project «provides psychological support at a distance to young people who were being monitored before the pandemic crisis and is responding to new referrals, as well as providing psycho-educational support to parents and relatives”.

In addition, it started a Mindfulness Program for Young People Online and very soon it will launch its website, as well as a set of awareness actions with specific content related to Covid-19.

Finally, the youth association from Olhano continues to work with the programs of the Portuguese Institute of Sport and Youth to promote the participation of young people in areas such as volunteering, occupation of free time, training and qualification, adapting them to the new times.
