Documents that expired from February 24th and whose validity was extended until June 30th will be accepted by the authorities even after that date, as long as the respective renewal schedule is confirmed, the tutelage said today.

In a note sent to the Lusa agency, the Ministry of Modernization of the State and Public Administration says that documents such as the citizen's card and driving license, documents and visas relating to permanence in national territory, certificates and certificates issued by the services of registration and civil identification, as well as licenses and permits subject to renewal.

This measure was approved last Thursday by the Council of Ministers and published in the Diário da República the following day, as a result of the extraordinary situation related to the Covid-19 outbreak.

According to the ministry, "all citizens who have expired documents must therefore schedule the renewal through the 'online' or telephone means of the respective services, which are available on the portal and Portugal, since these services are only done by appointment."

For help booking these services, they can contact the Citizen Contact Center, free of charge, by calling 300 003 990.

In the note sent to Lusa, Alexandra Leitão's ministry clarifies that “the reopening of public services that were closed until now, as well as those that have not closed because they are essential, will only be done by pre-scheduling, so citizens should not drive to the services without having the respective appointment scheduled'.

"Once at the services, users must take their personal protective mask, respect the safety distances indicated and sanitize their hands with alcohol or disinfectant gel", he adds.
