Covid-19: Algarve no longer has new cases, but in Alentejo there are 1 more

Data from the epidemiological bulletin of the Directorate-General for Health this Monday, 18 May

The number of Covid-19 cases in the Algarve remains, for the third consecutive day, at 356, while in the Alentejo there is 1 more case, with the total number rising to 243, according to today's epidemiological bulletin, 18 of May, of the General Directorate of Health (DGS).

The fact that there are no new confirmed cases in the Algarve region had already been revealed this morning by the Regional Health Delegate of the Algarve, during a press conference at the headquarters of the Regional Emergency and Civil Protection Command of the Algarve, in Loulé, at which the Sul Informação participated.

On the same occasion, Ana Cristina Guerreiro added that there are already 236 recovered (more 3 than yesterday), which represents a recovery rate of 66,3%.

On the other hand, of the 105 active Algarvian cases of Covid-19, only 9 patients are hospitalized, 3 of them in the Intensive Care of the hospital in Faro. There are still 170 people under surveillance by the health authorities in the Algarve.

Today, the number of recovered patients, at a national level, has increased significantly: there are over 1794 patients who have recovered from Covid-19, since the numbers advanced yesterday, an increase of 22%. The total has risen to 6430. This is the third day in a row that there are far more people recovering than new cases and deaths, which is very positive news.

At the daily press conference of the Ministry of Health, in which the Sul Informação Also participating today, Secretary of State Lacerda Sales said that this is the "biggest daily increase in recovered cases."

Across the country, there are 173 more confirmed cases (total of 29.209, in numbers accumulated since the beginning of the pandemic), and 1231 deaths, 13 more than yesterday. In the Algarve and Alentejo, there are no new deaths to register since yesterday.

As for the number of hospitalized people, in all hospitals nationwide, it is now 628, 21 less than yesterday. Of these, 105 are in intensive care (minus 3).

 

 

 

By regions, this is the distribution of the number of infected, in accumulated numbers since the beginning of the pandemic: North (16.396), Lisbon and Vale do Tejo (8361), Center (3628), Algarve (356, the same as yesterday), Alentejo (243, plus 1), Azores (135, no new cases) and Madeira (90, no new cases).

There are, at this moment, 2260 citizens awaiting laboratory results, while another 25.360 people are under surveillance by the health authorities.

As of January 1, the total number of suspected cases was 295.449, but 263.980 of those have not been confirmed.
