Covid-19: Algarve has another death and another case, Alentejo also increases

Data from the epidemiological bulletin of the Directorate-General for Health this Saturday, 16 May

The number of Covid-19 cases in the Algarve is now 356, 1 more than yesterday, having also risen to 241 in the Alentejo (more 1), according to the epidemiological bulletin of today, 16 May, of the General Directorate of Health (DGS). There is still one more death to register in the Algarve region, which thus has a total of 15 deaths.

Across the country, there are 227 more confirmed cases (a total of 28.810, in numbers accumulated since the beginning of the pandemic), and 1201 deaths, 13 more than yesterday.

Good news is that, according to the bulletin's data, there were more recoveries than new cases and deaths. Since yesterday's data, 494 were recovered (an increase of 14,8%), which now totals 3822 nationwide.

As for the number of hospitalized people today, it is 657, 16 less than yesterday. Of these, 115 are in intensive care (plus 3).

 

 

By region, this is the distribution of the number of infected, in accumulated numbers since the beginning of the pandemic: North (16.282 plus 68), Lisbon and Vale do Tejo (8097 plus 146), Centro (3609 plus 11), Algarve (356, plus 1), Alentejo (241, plus 1), Azores (135, no new cases) and Madeira (90, no new cases).

Seven of the 13 deaths registered since yesterday took place in the North, 5 in Lisbon and 1 in the Algarve. Eleven of these deaths were in the age group above 80 years and two between 60 and 69 years.

There are, at this moment, 2940 citizens awaiting laboratory results, while another 25.419 people are under surveillance by the health authorities.

As of January 1, the total number of suspected cases was 292.249, but 260.499 of those have not been confirmed.
