City Council delivers community visors and masks to “Protect Monchique”

Masks to the population will be delivered by mail

The Municipality of Monchique started delivering, this Monday, May 4th, visors, masks and gloves by local businesses and will also distribute reusable community masks to the entire population, as part of the Proteger Monchique program.

The initiative “aims to prepare the community for the gradual opening of public space and social life after the period of confinement, decreed by the State of Emergency and following the Covid-19 pandemic”.

The municipality intends to "help its population to return to normality safely".

As part of this program, explains the Monchique Council, «in addition to the reinforcement of the disinfection of public spaces throughout the municipality», « new normality”, thus protecting citizens who, in the exercise of their commercial activity, have contact with the public».

It was Rui André himself, mayor of Monchique, who went to the reopened stores to deliver the kits, "thanking the merchants and demonstrating their total availability, as well as the municipality's technicians, to collaborate and help in this particularly difficult time."

On the other hand, this week, reusable community masks will also begin to be distributed to the entire population, "and these will arrive at everyone's home by mail, ensuring all safety and hygiene conditions, keeping people at home."

The municipality predicts that, "during the next few weeks, all the inhabitants of the municipality will receive at least one individual protection mask in their home".

The masks offered to the population were purchased by the City Council «from a company certified for this purpose and the fabrics used have a quality guarantee, and can be reused at least 50 times if properly washed after each use», guarantees the municipality.

The Municipality of Monchique emphasizes that "as a result of the declaration of the state of calamity by the Government and the measures of deconfinement to be implemented, it becomes mandatory for citizens to wear masks to visit some spaces."

«In the absence of a general program for the offer of masks by the Government, as well as the difficulty of accessing this property, the Municipal Council of Monchique understood that it should, once again, support its population, thus safeguarding the protection of each one. of its citizens, as well as of the entire community», adds the Municipality.

The local authority emphasizes that «this distribution of Personal Protective Equipment to the entire population is made at an important stage of the de-confinement process, so the act of delivery will be an opportunity to pass important awareness messages to citizens on behaviors to be adopted in this new time of the fight against the pandemic and, particularly, on the precautions to be observed in the use and handling of the distributed material».

In addition to distributing the kits, the Municipality of Monchique set up a multidisciplinary team to provide technical support to companies “in this difficult time when it is necessary to change procedures, adapt spaces and adapt a set of methodologies to the new health requirements and to enable traders and its customers, maintain the recommended social distance and guarantee the required levels of security».

The Monchique municipality also acquired “permanent environmental treatment equipment for air and surfaces”, which it will make available to companies to help in the process of reopening and cleaning the spaces.

According to the City Council, «these ozone-based equipment, carry out a corrective and preventive action against all kinds of environmental contamination of the air» and will be used «in the gradual resumption of work in the various workplaces and vehicles in the Municipality, including
schools and municipal crèche».

For Rui André, «the best way to face the future, still uncertain about the fight against this virus, and the return to normality that we all want, is to continue to adopt a responsible posture and respect for the rules determined by local and health authorities. health".

The Municipal Council of Monchique, according to the mayor, “will always be by the side of its population and its entrepreneurs to help minimize the effects of this pandemic and do everything in its power to protect the community and each of its citizens in the face of this threat. Therefore, I reiterate the civic duty that everyone must continue to respect, reducing risky behavior as much as possible, since the municipality and its population have set an excellent example of citizenship and solidarity that we all have a duty to continue to build».
