The announcement of the nomination, according to the evaluation of the organizing committee of the “7 Wonders of Popular Culture”, which consists in reaching the 1st stage in the course of this competition, should take place in the 2020 edition of the Festa das Torchas Floridas, when, at the Procession of Hallelujah, followed by a lively Cultural Afternoon, gathering thousands of people in the Churchyard of São Brás de Alportel Church. Fate wanted to change circumstances and in a context of social isolation, the advertisement takes the form of a digital publication.
The Associação Cultural Sambrasense, with the support of the Municipality of São Brás de Alportel, submitted an application for the contest that aims to determine which are the 7 most significant Wonders of Popular Culture in Portugal, an initiative that follows a series of other contests “7 Wonders” which, since 2007, intend to disseminate and communicate the positive values of a strong National Identity – recognized national causes.
«The secular relationship of this Easter celebration with the São Brasense community, in a mixture of faith and tradition that cannot be fully explained, but only felt, was the genesis of this candidacy, based on the unique characteristics of a procession where the litters give place to flowers, raised to the sky, in beautiful torches, on a path designed by magnificent rugs woven with wild flowers, by willful hands… culminating in an echo that rises high “He is risen as I said. Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah”, the refrain repeated over and over again», explains the City Council of São Brás.
«The procession of Aleluia, with ancestral roots, is historically and sentimentally linked to the São Brasense community, it is the heart of the Florida Torch Festival, which attracts, year after year, thousands of visitors to the county, where they also have the opportunity to have an experience. unique and genuine at the cultural and gastronomic level», adds the municipality.
