Portimão provides training on Covid-19 to 220 employees of nursing homes

Online training has already started

The online training actions on Covid-19 launched by Portimão, aimed at entities in the social network, have already started and involve 220 employees of elderly homes in this and other municipalities.

About two weeks ago, the Civil Protection of Portimão «launched an e-learning training plan, available to all professionals in the social network of the municipality, considering that their training is an essential need to act effectively in the current pandemic».

Until the 28th of April, 220 entries had been received. «Although the course has only been available for two days, it had an important and very effective impact, given the scope of participation, not only in terms of professionals, but also of institutions and, above all, in terms of pedagogical results, as the average value of the assessment is around 95 percent», revealed the Civil Protection of Portimonense.

Commander Richard Marques, municipal coordinator of Civil Protection, considers that “it is crucial to prepare professionals who daily work on the front lines with the most vulnerable population and who deserve a special duty of protection, contextualizing fundamental aspects such as the correct use of equipment of individual protection and the prevention related to the transmission of Covid-19 in the groups at greater risk”.

"Given the geographical dispersion of the entities and the confinement to which we are all vetoed, the implementation of this training would only be possible through the e-learning modality, which was the challenge launched to the HPA – Hospital Particular do Algarve", said the also commander of the Fire Department of Portimão.

The administration of that hospital unit “has accepted this partnership without hesitation. In the current moment of difficulties and doubts that we all have, mutual help and solidarity are fundamental to make us stronger and more cohesive. With the HPA having the technical and human resources, we easily organized ourselves for this action, which – we believe – can even save lives», says the HPA Saúde Group.

Paulo Silva, pedagogical coordinator of the course and president of the Nursing Council of the HPA Saúde Group, says he is "enthusiastic" with this action and believes that it "will have a very important positive impact for the participating professionals, but above all for the communities and for the people with whom they interact, as everyone will leave more protected».

The training has already started, having received until yesterday, April 28, the applications of 220 trainees representing various institutions, not only from Portimão, but also from other municipalities, "which makes perfect sense" in Paulo's view. The training is free and registration must be done through the Technical Office for Awareness and Public Information of the Municipal Civil Protection Service. For more information, please contact Professor Carla Almeida ([email protected] / telephone number: 966 775 606).
