The City Council of Lagos awarded the contract for the requalification of the V10 road, commonly known as Estrada da Meio Praia, which runs parallel to the coastline of this bathing area in Lacobrigense. The work will cost close to two million euros and will have an execution period of 300 days
«There are about 1300 meters to be worked on, on a road that currently has no sidewalks, or when there are, they are not continuous, and where pedestrians can hardly get around. The main objective of the intervention is, therefore, to create a road that allows the interaction between the pedestrian and the vehicle, with gains in terms of road safety. For this purpose, a north sidewalk with variable width will be created, a green corridor 2 meters wide and a two-way lane with a width of 6,5 meters. The replacement and reinforcement of lighting along the entire road, the creation of pockets for bus stops (in both directions) and the creation of some seating areas are also planned”, described the City Council of Lagos.
In other words, reinforces the municipality, “a calm road will be created, where you can travel at a slower speed, which is why the pavement will be mixed, with the application of bituminous in the carriageway and granite cubes in the intersection areas and pedestrian crossings, so that vehicles travel comfortably along the route, but are obliged to reduce speed in areas where there are intersections or pedestrians crossing the lane'.
As for the approximately 2 million (€1) needed to carry out the work, it will be “practically supported by the Meia Praia Urbanization Plan (PUMP), as a result of the fees and equalization mechanisms that it provides, which proves the the fact that it is a plan that is sustainable, by allowing an economic gain to the private sector that, in part, reverts to the creation or improvement of the infrastructure that this occupation of the territory requires».
"The southernmost area of the road is not included in the intervention, as this strip is being considered within the scope of the Meia Praia dune cord enhancement project, as well as in the project to create the cycle path", concluded the Chamber of Lakes.
