The Portuguese Golf Federation (FPG) wants clubs in the sport to be included in measures to support the tourism sector, to "ensure their survival" and "keep hundreds of jobs".

In a letter sent to the Government, made public today, the FPG also asks for the development of «specific support measures» for the clubs, which it defines as non-profit associations, and asks for a reduction in VAT applied to golf, «considering that the regime The VAT tax fundamentally penalizes golf operators whose core business is golf tourism».

After congratulating itself with the measures taken when the State of Emergency was declared and its extension, to combat the Covid-19 pandemic, the FPG also presents the request for golf to be «one of the first sports to be practiced when verify the relief of containment measures', under conditions of conditioned use to be defined and taking into account the specificities of practice, outdoors and in large extensions and without physical contact.

A fourth point requested by the FPG is that "minimum maintenance of the golf courses be allowed in any scenario that considers the worsening of the current measures", since it "needs maintenance to avoid their total degradation, which would lead to unbearable recovery costs for the overwhelming majority of facility owners'.

The FPG recalls that «along with many other sports and industries, golf was tremendously affected, with large drops in revenue and massively resorting to the lay-off regime».
