Lagos Zoo hosts the piton snake captured yesterday at Fonte da Benémola

After placing the ID chip, the snake is now recovering

The Lagos Zoological Park hosted today the Piton-de-Burma-albina captured this Thursday, March 5, by ICNF, at Fonte Benémola, in Querença, like the Sul Informação reported firsthand.

Following an alert given by hikers on the footpath of Fonte Benémola, in Querença, a patrol of ICNF nature guards proceeded to capture the Burma-albina python (Python molurus bivittatus), 2,60 meters long and 5 kg in weight.

" promptly received and received'.

At this time, the animal remains recovering, in quarantine, after having been applied a microchip of identification.

This species, originally from Southeast Asia, can reach 8 meters in length and live for about 25 years. Like other pythons, it is not poisonous, killing its prey by constriction.

Wild populations are vulnerable due to their exploitation by the pet trade, as was the case with this snake, which was later abandoned.

Note: corrected the weight of the piton snake, at the request of the Lagos Zoo.
