HPA Group provides Hospital S. Gonçalo de Lagos to treat patients with Covid-19

"We want to collaborate in this national effort to contain the pandemic and mitigate all its effects", says the HPA Group

The HPA Saúde Group will prepare the Hospital de São Gonçalo, in Lagos, so that this hospital unit can receive patients infected with Covid-19 who need hospitalization.

«This availability has already been communicated to the Director-General of Health, as a way to relieve institutions and professionals in the public sector», reads a statement.

The Group also took the opportunity to present other help proposals for the other hospitals it has in the Algarve.

“We want to collaborate in this national effort to contain the pandemic and mitigate all its effects”, says the HPA Group.

Currently, the Hospital of São Gonçalo de Lagos will be dedicated to Covid-19 patients, with the availability of 14 isolation rooms and four intensive care units.

“Due to its location, this unit will complement the NHS response in the Western Algarve, allowing the referral of suspected cases in this area and those identified in the emergencies of other units of the HPA Group”.

The HPA Saúde Group had already announced its contingency plan last week, having installed, in all its units, screening posts for epidemiological screening and temperature measurement, as well as circuits and procedures in case of contagion.

For this purpose, mobile external isolation and containment units were installed, as well as advanced medical posts, to support advanced life support in case of need.

At the same time, the HPA Saúde Group currently has a plan in place to enable the possibility of teleconsultation.

“We cannot let people feel abandoned, as they are already scared enough by this whole situation,” says the HPA.

"It is imperative that everyone focus on the essential: fighting this pandemic," the statement concluded.
