Covid-19: Health Minister says "we can't trust luck" during pandemic

Portugal registers 5962 cases of people infected with the new coronavirus

“We estimate a very high number of Covid-19 infections and we need everyone's action to reduce the number of infected and victims. We cannot rely on luck». The words are from the Minister of Health, at a press conference, after the release of the data this Sunday, March 29th.

Portugal registers 5962 cases of people infected with the new coronavirus, a number that represents “an increase of 15%” compared to yesterday.

Marta Temido once again referred to the fact that the peak of the disease, in Portugal, was estimated for «the end of May».

But, he stressed, this is an "estimate, updated daily and that reflects not only the Government's measures, but our capacity to respect them".

Graça Freitas, general director of Health, added to this idea that "until there is a vaccine, we cannot be rested", not least because this "is a very intelligent and aggressive virus".

“We are all going to try to lower the work and pressure of the virus. The virus will try to replicate between people, it replicates itself in people's cells and will try to make its way,” he explained.

As for the issue of homes, the minister explained that "it is urgent that everyone prepares and reacts disciplinedly to a suspected case."

For Graça Freitas, “habits of social distancing are to be maintained for weeks and months”, namely in homes.

«Let's not have the illusion that testing is enough. The tests serve to identify positive early, but not to rest negative tests», he concluded.
