Câmara asks Santa Luzia fishermen for contributions to the octopus and tuna route

Câmara de Tavira is applying for European Union Funds

The fishing community of Santa Luzia, in Tavira, is being called upon to contribute to the project to create octopus and tuna routes, in a session scheduled for Saturday, the 14th, at 16:30 pm, in the local Parish Council hall. .

After submitting the candidacy for “Santa Luzia Fishing Routes – Octopus Route and Tuna Route”, to the Fishing Local Action Group of the Sotavento do Algarve, the municipality wants the contributions of the fishermen of this fishing village, in a session where they will be present executive members and technicians from Lais de Guia – Associação do Património Marítimo.

«The project aims at a historical, cultural, anthropological and biological investigation on the fishing of octopus and tuna in this parish of the county, which involves the collection of documents and history, the study of fishing gear for tuna and octopus, as well as the vessels and their evolution over the years», describes the Chamber.

As a complement, «and in order to publicize the research, it is planned, among other actions, the production of a promotional film, the placement of signs relating to the route, a traveling exhibition, a photographic catalog and workshops».

To carry out this project, around 138 euros will be needed plus VAT, which will be covered by 85% by the European Fund for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries – FEAMP.
