camera of Faro closes museums, nautical center, library and theater due to Covid-19

Face-to-face service from the Municipality will be limited

The Chamber of Faro will close the municipal sports and cultural facilities and limit services with face-to-face care due to the outbreak of the new coronavirus (Covid-19), starting this Friday, March 13th.

The objective "is to minimize the probability of spreading the virus among employees and collaborators of the Municipality and the population in general".

The municipality decided to close to the public the Municipal Swimming Pools, the Penha Municipal Sports Pavilion, the Athletics Track, the Nautical Center, football fields, as well as the Municipal Theater, the Municipal Museum, the Municipal Library, the Regional Museum, the Gallery Train and the Chapel of Santo António do Alto.

In addition to these spaces under the responsibility of the autarchy, the Chamber of Faro recommends that, over the next few days, public spaces such as playgrounds or bio-healthy parks are not used.

The situation "will be evaluated daily and adjusted to the needs of each moment, always in conjunction with the competent authorities, with which the Municipality has been in permanent contact, in order to take all measures deemed necessary to protect the community" .

The City Council of Faro it also recommends that “citizens not go to municipal services, unless this is strictly essential. Alternatively, any contacts should be made out of person, favoring telephone contact, mail, email or, when possible and necessary, video calls”.

In addition to the local authority's services and equipment, the “Viver Faro”, which works at the Municipal Market, will be closed from next Monday, March 16, “limiting the face-to-face assistance to matters considered strictly necessary and urgent and subject to appointment”.

In addition to these measures, the Chamber of Faro it also determined the suspension of cultural, sporting and other events, scheduled until the 3rd of April which, «due to their size, could reach audiences outside the municipal universe».

This is the case of the shows at Teatro das Figuras, which are postponed until a date to be announced in due course, or the 4th edition of the Half Marathon of Water, rescheduled for October 3rd.

Traveling by municipal transport outside the county is also canceled and, for the same reason, events with elderly people promoted by the municipality are also suspended indefinitely, namely under the program "Faro Senior".

The municipality also recommends suspending the operation of non-food fairs and markets that take place in the municipality.

The Municipality of Faro "understands that this is a serious issue of public health and individual and civic responsibility and therefore renews the call to the population to remain serene and assume, in their habits and behavior, the recommendations issued by the General Directorate of Health (DGS ), namely the basic rules of personal hygiene and social modesty, avoiding unnecessary travel outside the county, with a view to their own protection and to contain the spread of Covid-19».
