“Mini Messi” leads Farense to victory (and leadership)

Algarvians started to lose

There are days when, when everything seems to go wrong, an inspiration strikes. That's how Farense was: after a bad first half, the Algarve suffered, but they knew how to turn around, behind the back of a small Scottish genius. the team of Faro he won, this Saturday, February 29, by 3-1, against Académico de Viseu, with a hat-trick from Ryan Gauld, and is, in his capacity, leader of the II Football League.

One adjective is enough to describe the entire first time: painful. The football played by both teams was of poor quality. Neither Farense nor Académico de Viseu were able to connect their game, attack and, in the end, create danger.

The goalkeepers were mere spectators and there was no real scoring opportunity. Lucca, at 12′, still sketched a shot from outside the area, but without much danger… On the visitors' side, the best came from the feet of Carter, who, in good position, shot over the top (17′).

From night to day. The teams realized that they had to change and the second half started off shaken. We quickly all forget the monotony that was the first...

After 47 minutes, Académico de Viseu scored a goal. Carter dodged Matheus Silva and shot crossed, inside the area, with no chance for Hugo Marques.

But Farense did not lower his arms and soon reached a draw. At 50′, the referee pointed to the penalty mark due to a lack of Mathus, in a move shared with Fabrício Simões.

Called to convert, Ryan Gauld did not fail and re-establish equality.

From here on, the game remained interesting, with opportunities from both sides. Fernando Ferreira (54′) forced Hugo Marques to make a great save, with a shot inside the area, and, in the other goal, it was Fábio Nunes who had a similar chance.

But the morning was really Scottish – and it wasn't because of the cloudy and gray weather… On 68 minutes, Ryan Gauld scored twice in the match, giving the best follow-up to a cross by Matheus Silva. The small player headed in and made it 2-1.

The account was not closed yet. In another penalty, this time for a foul on Hugo Seco, Gauld was called up again. Calmly, the winger scored the third in the match, on 79 minutes. A hat-trick to later remember (remember the nickname Mini Messi with which he arrived in Portugal?).

With this victory, Farense reached 47 points and reached, to the condition, the leadership of the II League, with one more point than Nacional, the team that plays today against Penafiel.
