DGS to release coronavirus guidance to hotels

Graça Freitas, general director of health, undertook to disclose, in the next few days, specific guidance for the hotel industry on the coronavirus (Covid-19). This was one of the conclusions that came out of an AHP meeting - Portugal's Hospitality Association with the Directorate-General for Health, this Thursday, 27 February.

With the increase in the number of cases of patients infected with Coronavirus (COVID-19), as well as the geographic expansion of the virus, "there were several expressions of concern and requests for clarification on the part of AHP members".

The meeting was attended by representatives of the Association's management, the head of the Cabinet of the Secretary of State for Tourism, representatives of Turismo de Portugal and the Confederation of Tourism of Portugal.

The regional representatives of AHP and the presidents of the Regional Tourism Entities were also connected by video conference.

"This meeting resulted in the reinforcement of guidelines and procedures to be adopted in hotel units: in the reception and reception of guests, with regard to cleaning and sanitizing care and in the procedures to be followed when a suspected case of infection arises and how it is done. referral within the hotel and to the health authorities,” says AHP.

At this meeting, Graça Freitas recalled that all measures applied in Portugal are articulated with the guidelines of the World Health Organization and, in the case of airports and airlines, of IATA.

Also this week, AHP launched a kit of good practices and guidelines, gathered from the careful study of the most current recommendations of the competent bodies, both nationally and internationally, and which it distributed in digital format to its member hotels.

These recommendations can be printed and posted in places considered pertinent by hoteliers, either in private or public areas of the establishments.
