Renowned photographers show the result of their artistic residency in Lagoa

Exhibitions, conferences and film screenings are part of the program

The exhibitions by photographers Paulo Catrica, Augusto Brázio, Lara Jacinto and Valter Vinagre, who were in artistic residency in the municipality of Lagoa, as well as by João Pina, open this Wednesday, the 15th, at 19:45 pm, in various spaces in the city, within the scope of the International Meetings on Politics and Image of Lagoa, Politics & Image 2020.

Photographer Paulo Catrica worked on architecture and ways of living, resulting in his project in the exhibition prospectus. Augusto Brázio worked on tourism and the tourist industry and his exhibition is entitled The children of the sun: the search for the idyllic. From a project about migrants, developed by photographer Lara Jacinto, resulted the exhibition entitled Paradise. These three exhibitions will be on display at Centro Cultural Convento de São José, in Lagoa.

On the other hand, Valter Vinagre exhibits his work entitled hearts on high, with which he sought to document the religious confessions present in Lagoa, in the Parish Hall, next to the Igreja Matriz.

The photographer João Pina was also invited to this first edition of the Political & Image Meetings, who is coming to show a work he has been doing in Colombia about Venezuelan refugees, called Hikers. It will be displayed in the session room of the former Town Hall.

The Political & Image Meetings are promoted as part of the installation of the Casa da Cidadania and the creation of MUCID – Digital Museum of Citizenship and Social Movements, in the former Paços do Concelho.

 

The event's program also includes conferences, to which Alejandro Castellote, independent curator and creator of the Photo Spain, the philosopher Mário Santiago Carvalho and the journalist from Antena 1 José Manuel Rosendo.

“The three scheduled roundtables will be about documenting the world, interfaith dialogue and migration in the XNUMXst century,” explains the organization.

On the 15th, the Casa da Cidadania notebooks will be launched, with the photographic projects resulting from the artistic residencies, and the Cross-Border medal, authored by the master-sculptor and medalist José Teixeira, will be presented.

On the 16th, Thursday, when the creation of the municipality of Lagoa is celebrated, there will be a commemorative session, presided over by Luís Encarnação, the mayor of Lagoa, where the development of the Casa da Cidadania project will be presented.

Films by Sérgio Tréfaut will also be screened, including “Travel to Portugal” (on the 15th, 21:30 pm), the award-winning “Rage” (on the 16th, 21:30 pm), and “waiting for paradise"and "the city of the dead” (17, 21:30). All the films will be presented at the Centro Cultural Convento de São José auditorium and will be presented by the anthropologist Ana Machado.

On the last day, the closing session will be chaired by the Minister of Culture, Graça Fonseca. It will be at 19pm on Saturday, January 00th, also in the auditorium of the Convento de São José.
