Neves Júnior students ride their bikes to school

Students received prior training on traffic rules and the mandatory use of helmets, although the highway code does not require this.

Go from home to Escola EB 2,3 Neves Júnior, in Faro, by bike. This is the main objective of another initiative that will start this Tuesday, the 14th.

After having already started in secondary education, the Pinheiro e Rosa Schools Group decided to include the “Bike Me” project to students in the 2nd and 3rd cycles.

Thus, this Tuesday, at 8:00 am, the first group will depart from the meeting point next to the hospital roundabout (in front of Escola da Penha).

Students will follow Avenida Gulbenkian, intersecting the remaining four meeting points until Escola Neves Júnior. The same route back home is planned at lunchtime and in the afternoon.

The trip is supported by the PSP, which guarantees security.

According to the Schools Group, «the goal is not exhausted on a day when primary school students in the city of Faro they go to school on a bicycle, but it is expected that this type of mobility will be repeated once a week with the participation of teachers who accompany the students as well».

Students received prior training on traffic rules and the mandatory use of helmets, although the highway code does not require this.

«We intend to develop an active civic awareness, in which students are the very actors of the change in the urban mobility paradigm and, as a result, promoters of a sustainable environment», concludes the Schools Group.
