Last days of the year with a new circus will be a «wonderful thing» in Monchique

“Lavrar o Mar”, a program supported by 365Algarve, once again promotes a different New Year's Eve in Monchique

And New Year's Eve in Monchique? How is it going to be? "A wonderful thing!" Who guarantees it, with a smile on his face, is Gabriel Larès, acrobat from Collectif Malunés, one of the groups that will animate the Algarve village with the magic of the new circus until 5 January.

This year, the big news of the New Year's Eve program, which starts this Friday, December 27th, involves the existence of two shows, divided by two tents: “Les Dodos”, by the French company Le P'tit Cirk, and “Forever, Happily”, by Collectif Malunés (Belgium).

The first will always have screenings at 18:00; the second at 21 pm. There are shows on the 30th, 27th, 28th and 29st of December and 31st, 1rd, 3th and 4th of January.

At the Heliport, everything is in an authentic live wheel before today's premiere. At the top, there is a red tent, which stands imposingly, for “Forever, Happily”. Capacity is 500 people. Below, at the end of the slope, another tent, but yellow, will accommodate a maximum of 400 people taken to hitchhike at “Les Dodos”.

Maël Vally, technical director of the Le P'tit Cirk company, is putting the finishing touches on the stage so that nothing fails.

“We are very happy. We set up the tents in two days and now we hope that it will be very public and that it will be pleasant for everyone», he tells the Sul Informação.

“Les Dodos”, this company's show, which will not lack acrobatics and music, has the particularity of having the name of a species of bird that is already extinct. But that's not all: it will bring together, on stage, five young French people and their guitars.

A curious choice explained by Maël Vally: “one of the acrobats is a musician and had to make the music for the show. When the rehearsals started, he moved from music to acrobatics and we ended up mixing the two”.

Thus, the five interpreters, during the almost hour and a half of the show, «do acrobatics with the guitars, but also music».

Gabriel Larès, from Collectif Malunés, is also the face of the enthusiasm that his collective feels for being in Monchique. It is he who says that the show “Forever, Happily” will be “a wonderful thing” that will speak “about fairy tales, but, at the same time, about today's society, mainly from the point of view of women”.

At his side, Giacomo Scalisi, one of the programmers of “Lavrar o Mar”, adds: “in essence, there will be a deconstruction of these fairy tales. will be put Legs in the air. Literally!". All with the help of music, acrobatics and theater.

This time, the "Plowing the Sea" felt the need to take a leap forward. Hence, the fact that there are two shows (and not just one, as in other years), with the «indispensable support» of the Municipality of Monchique.

With screenings at 18:00 and 21:30, the idea is to take «people to spend a day» in the village. And, despite the renowned restoration of Monchique, “Lavrar o Mar” set up another small tent on the Heliporto, dedicated to food and drink.

The name, with a Monchique accent, is in the ear: “Entrecirques”. There will be steaks, soups, daily specials, samosas, salads, craft beers, teas and, of course, medronho and honeydew. All provided by Luigi Gautero, Head responsible for Várzea and Gulli restaurants.

But the strong dish of all this programming will be New Year's Eve. On the night of the 31st, after the new circus, the Orquestra Vicentina, a project born in “Lavrar o Mar” will enter the stage. There will also be no shortage of champagne, raisins and a bonfire (and no fireworks).

For now, there are only two sold out sessions: “Les Dodos” on the 27th, and “Forever Happily” on the night of the 31st. can be bought here. But hurry, because tickets for these shows at Lavrar o Mar are always sold out.
