January is to discover artists in the Algarve, rare piano pieces and small movements

4th edition of 365Algarve runs until May 2020

Knowing the inside of the work of artists in residence at LAC – Creative Activities Laboratory, listening to rarely played piano pieces and discovering what micro-movements human gestures are made of are the main proposals of 365Algarve for January.

On January 17th and 18th, the LAC Open Days will present, in Lagos, all the dynamics of this cultural association, including the activities developed by artists in permanent residence, distributed in 20 projects in the various disciplines of visual and visual arts, music and arts performatives.

The program includes exhibitions, concerts, presentations, performances, workshops and open classes, with the public invited to visit the work studio of each artist and project they develop.

Formed in 1995 by people with activity in various sectors of culture (Sculpture, Painting, Ceramics, Music, Architecture, Cinema, Museology, Heritage Defense), LAC – Creative Activities Laboratory aims to streamline and promote artistic creation in region.

Also on the 18th of January, the 4th Algarve International Piano Festival returns which, in this 4th edition of the 365 Algarve, has the theme “Ilustres Unknowns”.

At TEMPO – Teatro Municipal de Portimão, it will be possible to hear the Concerto for piano and orchestra by one of the greatest Portuguese composers, Joly Braga Santos, which is rarely played.

This work is performed by the soloist Goran Philip, in the first part of the concert. In the second part, the Orquestra Metropolitana de Lisboa, conducted by conductor Pedro Amaral, will interpret Brahms' Fourth Symphony.

Also in Portimão, but on the 25th of January, it is time to listen to the interpretation of Concerto No. 2 for piano and orchestra by Saint-Säens by pianist António Rosado, accompanied by the Orquestra Académica Metropolitana de Lisboa, under the direction of Jean Marc Burfin .

On the weekend of January 18th and 19th, in Aljezur, there is theater for the whole family with A Grande Viagem do Pequeno Mi, a creation by Madalena Vitorino based on the work of Sandro William Junqueira.

Mi in this case is an abbreviation for micromovement. In other words, the source that supports the entire show, as read in its synopsis:

«On a large table, a dancer dances. Dance in silence. The audience, seated around her, watches her closely. She dances so that one can decipher how they are and where her steps, her gestures, her moving figure come from. Are you thinking about the geography of a body you see in front of you, in a poetic equation that suddenly comes to mind? In a vegetable soup almost ready for lunch? How do aspects of what the dancer sees when she dances for a group of adults and children come together, with the micro-movements, looks and poses of the audience while watching?».

The 4 365Algarve runs until May 2020 and the programming cycle starts from an idea of territory as a landscape on a human scale, which can be explored on foot. A concept immediately associated with Europe, a continent where connections are made at a walking distance, and which constitutes the common thread of this edition: the deep human connection to the territory, both physically and metaphorically.

There are more than 400 cultural initiatives that 365 Algarve promotes throughout the region and which include more than a hundred concerts, around 50 theater performances and around a hundred actions related to the region's heritage, among other events.
