Isilda Gomes nominated for effective national delegate to the Committee of the Regions

PS Mayor leads the Portimão Chamber since 2013

Isilda Gomes, mayor of Portimão, was appointed effective national delegate to the Committee of the Regions of the European Union, after approval of a resolution, this Thursday, December 5, in the Council of Ministers.

The Government approved the new composition of the national delegation in the Committee of the Regions, which now starts a new mandate that will run from 26 January 2020 to 25 January 2025.

The Portuguese delegation is made up of two representatives from the Autonomous Regions of the Azores and Madeira and 10 representatives from the municipalities.

The Commission, the Council and the European Parliament must consult the Committee of the Regions when drafting legislation on matters where regional and local authorities have a say, such as employment, social policy, economic cohesion and social, transport, energy and climate change.
