Faro sensitized elderly people to water management

Event is part of the Program Faro Senior

Raising awareness among the elderly population about water management was one of the objectives of the “Eco Science – Ciência Sénior” initiative, which took place last Wednesday, December 4, at the Neighborhood Office of the Municipality of Faro.

This event is the result of a partnership between the Centro Ciência Viva do Algarve, the municipality of Faro and Provectus – Association in favor of the Third Age.

According to the Chamber of Faro, «this initiative was intended to take a series of practical and awareness-raising activities to the oldest population in the municipality, on scientific and ecological issues, in this case the management of water resources».

At the opening of the initiative, Carlos Baía, councilor responsible for the social area, welcomed all participants, and explained that the activity "is part of a strategy of the Municipality to encourage regular activities with the senior population, thus promoting social interaction and the fight against loneliness».

The municipality emphasizes that this "was a very lively session in which the elderly were able to make various experiences related to the water cycle". What happens when we leave an egg or bone for several days in a vinegar solution? Or what is the difference between water and oil in bird feathers? Were some of the questions answered.

At the end, the participants were entitled to a convivial snack, "which served to comfort everyone present and prolong this moment of good mood for a few more minutes."

This was an initiative of the Program Faro Senior who develops various social, recreational and cultural activities with seniors from Faro.
